Ross Reynolds was born in
Pasadena, Texas in January of 1960 to Charles and Joanna Reynolds.
Ross’ family always attended church and his great grandfather was a
circuit- riding preacher. It
wasn’t until Ross was twelve that he realized that just attending church would
not get him into heaven. After
attending Vacation Bible School at his church, the Lord spoke to his heart and
it was then that he gave his life to Jesus but wasn’t baptized until he was
eighteen. Ross’ relatives on his
dad’s side of the family had a big musical influence in his life.
His aunt and uncle had a Bluegrass band and even cut a few records in
their day. He dreamed of one day
being able to play the guitar or mandolin. He
was a junior in high school before he seriously pursued it.
It was after being in Kentucky for a family reunion that he decided it
had been long enough. Having to sit
out on a jam session that most of the family was in on, he decided it was time
to learn how to at least play the guitar. Ross
came back home from that reunion and bought a twelve-string Fender and it’s
his favorite still today. He is
mostly a self-taught musician, playing the guitar, harmonica and ”tinkering”
with the mandolin and banjo.
Ross’ ministry background
includes: Technical
Director; which included remodeling the sound system at Mountain View
Baptist Church. He was also in the
drama group, "The New Parable Players". When
he went to Northwest Baptist Church to help them upgrade their system, he was
asked to stay and be the Music Director and stayed there for the next two years.
Ross and Cathy were then asked to help start a new kind of church and he
was the Music/Band Director at God’s Country Church for the next two years.
Ross then stepped down as Music Director at God’s Country to start up
“One Spirit” along with his wife, Cathy, and Bob
Wentzel. Ross enjoys writing and
composing Christian songs and has been known to fill the pulpit from time to
time. Ross and Cathy met in 1981 and
got married in 1984. They will
celebrate their 24th anniversary in November of 2008. After nine years of
ministry together Bob will be leaving the group to start his own ministry of preaching
and singing. Ross and Cathy will continue to sing as One Spirit and hope
to put out a new CD in fall or winter of 2008.
