Robert Wentzel, or “Bob” (as his friends know him), was born in Lorain, Ohio in 1961 to Willard and Mary Wentzel.  Having the advantage of being brought up in a Christian home, Bob accepted Christ as his personal Savior when he was six years old at Abbey Road Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio.  The pastor’s wife taught Junior Church during the regular morning service, and Jesus spoke to his heart and told him that he needed more than a Christian daddy and mommy and that He wanted for him to know and love Him.  That very Sunday he knew that he needed to share Jesus with others.  He called all his friends over to the swing-set behind his house and told them all about God, Satan, Heaven and Hell.  He also told them that they could avoid living forever in the Lake of Fire by asking Jesus into their hearts.  This had the totally unexpected result of leaving them horrified and in tears.  He can only pray that the well-meant efforts of a six-year-old had an eternal benefit to at least one of his friends.

His love for music was apparent early on when he started singing soprano with his sisters, later singing alto with his mother, and at thirteen years, singing bass with his father.  Though he loved to sing, he did not have the opportunity to sing in small groups or solo until he went to Elyria Christian Academy in this 9th grade year.  That was the beginning of his singing ministry that includes:  The Freedom Singers of Tucson Christian School, All Western Regional Choir at Pacific Coast Baptist College, Sonward Praise and musical theatre with the Salt and Light Company drama group including “Dreamer”, “High Tops” and “Parables” at Del Norte Baptist Church.  Other college choirs include Los Angles Baptist College and Southwestern Bible College.  Bob has been involved in the Simon Peter Passion Play of Tucson since 1992 and has understudied the role of Simon Peter for all but one year.  He has played the role of Andrew up through 2002, as well as singing the “Via Dolorosa” solo during the intermission on given nights for the last seven years.  Bob has also been a guest soloist at churches in and around Tucson and ministered with Ross and Cathy at God’s Country Church.

In August of 2006 Robert was married to Diane.  After many prayers on everyone's part, Robert felt he has been called to leave One Spirit and start his own ministry of preaching and singing.  They attend Silverbell Baptist Church where Robert has started his new ministry of preaching under the guidance of Pastor Phil Dunham.  Robert will be singing with One Spirit through August of 2008.
